Automobiles glistened in the sun while oldies from the ’60s and ’70s provided the perfect ambiance for the hundreds of locals who arrived on the scene to the annual Cruisin’ into the Next Chapter Classic Car and Truck Show out in front of the Yolo Branch Library located at 37750 Sacramento St. in Yolo.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, community members of all ages flooded to the intersection of Sacramento and Second Street, conveniently located within a five-minute drive from Woodland, to check out an array of classic cars and trucks.

“I think this is a really good turnout. It’s about the same amount of people and cars as last year, so we are thrilled,” said the Yolo Branch Library’s car show coordinator Meg Sheldon. “You just look around and see a lot of smiles and people enjoying each other. It turned out wonderfully.”

The free admission event was hosted in conjunction by the Friends of the Yolo Branch Library and the Yolo County Library, which serve the communities of Yolo, Zamora, Dunnigan and other surrounding areas.

Classic cars and trucks, low riders, muscle cars, fire engines, antique fire trucks and some tractors made up the over 150 registered automobiles on display for people to admire from afar or up close.

Upon entrance from the southern part of Second Street, a line of cars and trucks on both sides of the road funneled people past vendor booths and a DJ booth provided by Rockwell Sound & Lighting.

Lines of cars filled Sacramento Street to the east and west of the Yolo Branch Library, which stood in the background. Antique fire trucks were on the eastern side of the event while the food carts were settled to the west. On the library premises, a balloon animal vendor mocked up various animals for the line of kids. A raffle table with prizes and the Youth Low Rider Bike Show was on display on the library’s northern lawn.

Jeff Proschold, a Woodland resident, decided to support the community by registering and bringing along his 1972 Chevrolet C10 for all to see.

“I think this turnout is great,” Proschold said. “They have vendors, food and raffles, which is huge for the whole family. I think this event is also a big deal. I would never think of a car show out here in Yolo, but for what this event is for, the library, it’s huge. I’m glad I came out and brought the truck.”

According to Sheldon, all of the proceeds from the event go towards the Friends of the Yolo Branch Library, who in turn support the Yolo Branch Library to make it “the best it can be.”

“This event is really important,” Sheldon said. “On many levels, but more importantly, it brings the community together. It’s all volunteers putting it together and those who volunteer their cars. We all get to enjoy a fun day together.”

Saturday’s event was the 6th annual Cruisin Car and Truck Show, accounting for the two-year layoff in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now in its second consecutive year, Sheldon feels this event is here to stay in the public’s mind, morphing into an event that people now look forward to.

“This event is here to say,” Sheldon said. “Everyone already assumes there will be another car show next year because they all love it. It’s a time to come together, enjoy yourself, see some beautiful cars and have a nice day.”

Sheldon thanked the Yolo Branch Library for hosting and the over 80 volunteers lending a helping hand.

Additional support for this year’s event was provided by the Yolo Fire Protection District, Yolo Welding & Fabrication, Yolo Market, Cache Creek High School and dozens of other local businesses and residents.
