Ascendant Studios announced that its debut game (due to be published under the EA Originals label) Immortals of Aveum has officially gone gold, essentially locking in the August 22nd release date. The game was previously scheduled to launch on July 20th but suffered a one-month delay for polishing.

Head of Studio Bret Robbins, known to gamers for his previous work on acclaimed franchises like Dead Space and Call of Duty, shared a message to commemorate the conclusion of Ascendant's five-year project.

When I founded Ascendant Studios, I had little more than a game concept, some notes, and the trust of my investor Brian, to create an independent AAA studio. I had no team, no tech, and only a vague idea on how to start such an ambitious project. Fast forward five years, and I think we have an epic, beautiful, and really fun game that came out of the passion and hard work of the team. I could not be more proud of what we have accomplished, from building a world-class team to learning Unreal 5, creating an amazing combat system and story through the adversity of Covid, and so many more accomplishments along the way. It's been the best experience of my professional life.

On behalf of the Ascendant team, I can't wait for all of you to play the game and experience the world we have created. This is our first game and the first chapter of our company. It's only the beginning.

Immortals of Aveum is a single player sci-fantasy first-person shooter. Players will be thrust into the middle of the Everwar (a seemingly unending conflict for the control of magic between the kingdoms of Lucium and Rasharn) as Jak, a former street urchin who suddenly manifests the extremely rare ability to wield all colors of magic. He is then recruited among the titular Immortals, a group of elite warriors tasked with turning the tide of the war.

The developers have promised a lengthy campaign of over 25 hours. There's also some side content in Immortals of Aveum, as confirmed to Wccftech by Executive Producer Kevin Boyle.

There are some things to discover for players who are interested in turning over every stone and finding every secret and taking some cues from Metroidvania-style gameplay where the first time you're moving through a space, you may not have all the abilities you would need to explore every area and find every secret. Hopefully, that motivates players to come back when they've developed more abilities, more powers to access that thing they saw that they were unable to get across that gap or to get through that ward or whatever the obstacle may have been.

I think you'll find that it's a pretty deep offering in terms of variety. There are certainly puzzles. Some things are relatively straightforward and then some content in the later game is fairly elaborate and challenging.

Immortals of Aveum is powered by Unreal Engine 5, and its official system requirements were really high. However, they were not final, so hopefully the developers were able to optimize the game a bit more ahead of the release.
